Glen Meade Trust Company Educational Focus Grant
In November 1995, GBSA received a grant from the Glen Meade Trust Company to address the needs of African American women at risk for GBS. African American women and their babies are at twice the risk to develop GBS related complications in pregnancy and post-partum. Working with the CDC and Atlanta based healthcare professionals, GBSA plans to address this issue through physician education and community partnerships with local health organizations. "Our hope is that we will see reduction in the GBS incidence rates at the inner-city Atlanta hospitals," stated Gina Burns, GBSA President. Even with extensive CDC surveillance over a number of years, these hospitals continue to report a high rate of GBS. The CDC plans to evaluate how the new GBS Prevention Guidelines are being implemented.

Gannett Foundation Matching Grant
Thanks to $500 gift from Susan and Peter Comey, aunt and uncle of baby Collin Comey. Collin was six days old when he died August 13, 1995 from overwhelming GBS infection. He was the fourth child of Patrice and Jim Comey of Virginia.

Nutrasweet Fund Grant
A special thanks to Gail Haller of Chicago for helping us get a $500 grant. Gail and Gary lost their second child, Kathryn Ann, in 1991. Little Kathryn was 15 days old.

Can you help?
If you know of any available grant and/or foundation monies, we would love to know about them. As a non-profit organization, the Group B Strep Association exists on the generosity of it's members and through grants. We would appreciate any leads that could help us help others and save needlessly lost or handicapped lives. Let us know! Of course, we also cherish individual donations as well.
